Todd Snider with Allen Thompson

March 3

8:00 pm

$26.50 to $29.50

Sue McLean & Associates is proud to present Todd Snider, one of the most beloved country-folk singers in the country. In the nineties, he had a top forty hit with “Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues,” which gave national audiences the first taste of his brilliantly insightful songwriting voice. Since the release of the 2004 album East Nashville Skyline, Snider’s star really started to rise. Hailed by critics as one of the top albums of the year, East Nashville Skyline was followed by The Devil You Know and The Excitement Plan. Snider’s songs took on George W. Bush (“You Got Away With It”) and America’s recent fascination with foreign war (“Mission Accomplished”), along with a host of more intimate topics: married love, devotion to old friends, memories of foolish youth. As good as Snider’s albums have been—and he’s been compared to Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, John Prine, and dozens of other household names—his in-concert monologues are even better. Snider’s newest album Eastside Bulldog is due out October 9th.

A live Todd Snider show is a loose-limbed, informal experience: it’s often just him and a guitar, and he introduces his songs with stories that can stretch to as long as twenty minutes. These stories can be personal memoir, shaggy-dog comedy, rueful memories of his troubles with drugs and alcohol, or sharp-eyed observation from his years as a touring musician; no matter what the case, they display Snider’s boundless charm and insight. As he’s allowed his storytelling to evolve along with his music, Snider has become not only a modern-day Dylan but a modern-day Will Rogers, an everyman whose intelligence, self-deprecation, experience, and—above all— sense of humor makes him a uniquely American character.
